Sorry Sue

I’ve been more or less silent around here lately. Sorry about that. I think this cartoon, taken from the pages of New Yorker (March 21, 1994,) sums things up rather nicely: Too many projects. And too many projects necessarily means choosing just one or two to focus on. Either that or a picking up some […]

Henry Endorses Jansport

Henry is Sean’s cat. Henry is playful. He attacks anything that moves. Also, he attacks anything that doesn’t move. So whether it moves or it doesn’t move, it’s toast.

CNN

I park my car on the top level of the CNN parking lot when I go to work even though there are scores of lower spaces. The only reason I do this is because when I return to it later, I do so beneath the night sky.

Weekend

I’m at the far end of a weekend that felt like seven days folded into three. I’m sitting, exhausted and bleary-eyed at my computer wondering how to sum it up. But once again, I think I’ll have to resort to an artist’s rendering, this one meticulously sketched on a small napkin. Perhaps later, once I […]

The Week In Review

Oh, Lordy, has it already been a week? A quick check of my calendar reveals…hey, where the hell’s my calendar? Well, almost a week, anyway. I owe this blog a handful of oddball posts. In fct, I owe a lot to a lot of people. LAist was gonna get two additional posts this week, but […]

Disney Hall

Just because.

John + Exene

My newest post is up over at LAist. Go check it out.

Coachella Pics

Since returning from my Saturday stint at Coachella I’ve been working non-stop. Today’s my first day off. I plan to spend it writing. But so this blog doesn’t remain dormant any longer I thought I’d post some pics from the festival. The crowd waiting to get in is massive, but in good spirits. The bag […]

When Harry Met Sally

I’m throwing this thing onto eBay today. It’s an odd style one-sheet for When Harry Met Sally. The thing is, I can find no identifying information that tells me exactly which style it is. It’s definitely not Style A. That’s the one we all know from the cover of the disc. Does anyone have a […]

premiere

Faced with another day of hanging around the apartment nursing a sore back, I dig into my closet and pull out one of my collections. It’s an old Sun World Grapefruit box filled to the brim with the first three years worth of Premiere Magazine. Issue number one sports Tom Hanks and Dan Aykroyd. Issue […]

sunset over sunset

Man, is this cool: Taken from the top level of the CNN parking lot.

arclight

My friend Steve just got a job here. But that’s not why I took this photo. I just like the light.

like a cow pissin’ on a flat rock

I sit down at Groundwork on Sunset and Cahuenga as I often do in the hour or so before work. I’d just hurried through a fierce rain squall to get there, but now that I’m pulling out my notebook, sun streams across my table. That’s the way the weather’s been lately here in L.A. Even […]

SFX: gemma hayes

Two years ago I track down Night On My Side, the debut full-length by singer/guitarist Gemma Hayes. This is during a time of serious transition, and I dig deep into the CD for a few weeks as if it were an emotional salve. On impulse I drop it into my player the other day and […]
